Tottenham Hotspur has fired their manager, Jose Mourinho, along with his coaching staff, after just 17 months in charge. This came after a disappointing season where the team failed to make it to the top four of the English Premier League (EPL) and were knocked out of the Europa League in the round of 16.
Mourinho was appointed as the team’s head coach in November 2019 and had a promising start, leading the team to the top of the EPL table in December of that year. However, the team’s performance has been on a steady decline ever since, with poor results in both the EPL and the Europa League.
A statement from Tottenham Hotspur’s official website announced that Ryan Mason, a former Tottenham player, and head of player development, will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Mason will be supported by Chris Powell, Nigel Gibbs, and Michel Vorm.
The club’s Chairman, Daniel Levy, expressed his disappointment at the decision to relieve Mourinho of his duties, but stated that it was necessary for the benefit of the club’s future. He thanked Mourinho and his coaching staff for their hard work and wished them success in their future endeavors.
