Cam Robinson, an offensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has run into trouble for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
The 24-year-old player was suspended for two games without pay, which will cost him around $141,176 in lost wages. The suspension was announced on December 18, 2020.
Robinson was one of three players who were suspended for PED use that day, along with Giants cornerback Sam Beal and Cardinals safety Josh Shaw. Robinson had been flagged for the violation earlier in the season and had appealed the decision, but the appeal was denied.
Robinson had been a starter for the Jaguars since he was drafted in the second round in 2017. He played in 14 games in 2020, allowing just two sacks, and was seen as an important part of the team’s future. However, this suspension raises questions about his reliability and commitment to the sport.
The Jaguars released a statement saying they were disappointed in Robinson’s actions and that they would support him during his suspension. Robinson also released a statement apologizing for his mistake and promising to learn from it.
This is not the first time a Jaguars player has been suspended for violating the PED policy. In 2018, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. was suspended for the first game of the season for a similar violation.
